Large-scale quantum communication networks with integrated photonics

Y. Zheng, H. Wang, X. Jia … J. Wang (24 authors)

Nature · 651, 68–75

Summary

Can integrated sources serve many quantum-communication clients?

Uses one optical microcomb chip as seed and phase reference for 20 transmitter chips.

Demonstrates sequential pairwise twin-field QKD over wavelength channels and spooled fibre.

Commentary

This is a proof-of-principle communication network, not universal quantum computation or simultaneous service of every pair.

Source coherence, phase locking and fabrication reproducibility become system-level constraints.

Interpretation and connections in this note, separate from the authors’ reported findings.
